I’m Sitabai, founder of Soul Journey Tours and a seasoned pilgrimage leader passionate about guiding you to transformative places where Nature and Spirit intersect.
For over forty years, the Ananda Cooperative Spiritual Community in Northern California has been my spiritual and physical home. As an Ananda Minister, I am dedicated to offering rich, multi-dimensional spiritual experiences on our trips, including meditation, yoga postures, affirmations, optional purification ceremonies, and just good plain fun and laughter. My upbringing in Washington State was enriched first in the Roman Catholic traditions, and I hold a deep respect for and welcome people of all faiths. Diversity, to me, is not just important; it’s a source of joy. Our pilgrimages have been graced by the presence of practicing Catholics, yogis, and atheists alike, creating a unique tapestry of camaraderie, love, and joy. This blend of diverse backgrounds, all united in their quest for inspiration and growth, has proven to be both dynamic and profoundly inspiring.
My lifetime has had many professions. I’ve been a civil engineer, a business manager, a pilgrimage leader, a marketing person, and in some ways most importantly – a dedicated mother to four incredible sons who are all now grown adults.
God in Nature has been one of my most adored teachers. Every summer for 35 years, my family and I immersed ourselves in the grandeur of Yosemite National Park and other natural wonders around the world. I later specialized in solo ultralight wilderness backpacking, and I solo-hiked the entire John Muir Trail from Mt. Whitney to Yosemite in my 50’s. Occasionally I still lead wilderness backpacking trips.
I completed a life-altering, more-than-500-mile Camino de Santiago pilgrimage in Spain in 2017. I continued walking this trek to Spain’s “End of the World” coast, where ancient Celts once walked. Enamored and captivated by the Camino’s transformative power, I now create group pilgrimages that offer connection to Spirit while easing the burden of trip planning for my guests. In Fall 2023, I completed this meaningful Camino journey on foot to the Cathedral of Santiago five times, each pilgrimage a new and ever-deepening spiritual discovery.
A favorite quote of mine by Paramhansa Yogananda: “Smile that perpetual smile – that smile of God….that no one can take away from you.”
Join me! The pure joy of pilgrimage awaits you!
“I appreciated Sitabai’s passion to share this part of the Camino de Santiago with us, and her tireless efforts to make it happen! I enjoyed the pace very much, and the unique lodgings and food. Just being in nature slows you down. It makes you realize the Maya [delusion] of the world is superfluous and it tends to bring you back to the present moment.” – 2019 Camino Pilgrimage Guest
