“The Camino Provides”

Celebrating Walking to the End of the World

The Camino Provides ๐Ÿšถโ€โ™‚๏ธ

I love this oft-used expression: โ€œThe Camino Provides.โ€ But what exactly is given? What is received?

In 2017, I embarked on a challenging pilgrimage journey, walking over 900km in more than 6 weeks despite having peripheral neuropathy (lack of feeling in my hands and feet). Embarking on this pilgrimage was a profound life shift for me, my quest for healing and rediscovery. Equally, too, I have walked with others who were not seeking answers to problems โ€“ they were simply pilgrims for the sheer joy and relaxation the Camino provides.

In my case, despite numbness in both feet, I dove wholeheartedly into this transformative experience with excited anticipation. Did I have doubts? Sure. Plenty.

Trust ๐Ÿ™

Trust became my mantra. “The Camino Provides,” was an expression regularly used by pilgrims, and indeed, I came to quickly find that it did. With every step, the Divine presence โ€“ my source of optimism and joy โ€“ proved unwavering in the fulfillment of my needs.

Not only did I trust for my own well-being, I realized that I, too, was part of the grace on the Camino. I remember one pilgrim I met, Kristin, who faced severe challenges on the Camino with blister upon blister upon blister on her feet from improper shoe selection (donโ€™t worry, I give lots of guidance on how to avoid this when you join our pilgrimage!).

In Kristinโ€™s struggle, I offered her help and companionship. I carried her backpack one day when she could barely walk to the next town. I stayed with her three nights so she would not be left alone in her healing process. Through giving, I received many abundant blessings, and the Camino provided for both of us in beautiful ways.

โ€œI particularly enjoyed walking into the sun-kissed plaza in front of the Santiago Cathedral for the first time surrounded by other pilgrims. I felt I was surrounded by celebration and an incredible joyous energy!
